We chat with travel blogger and travel writer Dawn Jorgensen about travel, travel blogging and Africa. Dawn blogs at http://theincidentaltourist.com Welcome to the Travel Massive podcast, an interview series with travel industry change-makers and pioneers, sharing their stories and insights. Your host is Holly Galbraith, tourism expert and also host of the Tourism Tweetup Podcast (http://gofuturemedia.com). In this interview, we meet Dawn Jorgensen - travel writer, blogger and chapter leader of Cape Town, South Africa Details of Episode 5 with Dawn Jorgensen: She shares: How she got into the travel industry with no travel-related experience How spending 4 years as an exchange student in Israel inspired her to work in travel How she sold her Africa tour business to be a travel writer Her passion for animals and conservation Professional bloggers vs non-professional bloggers On innovation in the industry: Like traditional print or advertising, brands should include bloggers and online media in their budget, see the value that the blogger will bring to the campaign On the challenges we face: As a blogger, put out a blog for you and that you're proud of "Be true to yourself, your voice and your principles" A blog is a job and should be remunerated Set brand-blogger expectations On biggest learnings: "To be conscious travellers and live more consciously, to be aware that someone is preparing that meal, or getting up early to be there to look after you. Be appreciative travellers" "Sometimes we need to slow it down, and stop and think about it to truly be able to appreciate it" In travel, it's possible to love what you're seeing and doing, but really slow down to appreciate it. Talk to strangers. "Everyone has a story." "Talk about expectations with travel brands you want to work with" Thank you to Dawn Jorgensen for spending some time talking with us.
